| Late in 1977, the 6.9, successor to the 300SEL 6.3 was introduced. In all, less than 1000 of these high performance sedans were made and the entire production was bought before they were even made. Technically these were 1978 models, but to those who coughed up more than $44,000 for what may be the world's finest (certainly, the fastest) sedan, it wouldn't have mattered if they were 1977 models.
